Professor Pau graduated from Leicester Medical School in 1994. He started his surgical training in Leicester and completed it in Liverpool. During his training, he undertook a higher degree (MD) in genetic deafness and balance disorders at the Medical Research Council (MRC)-Institute of Hearing Research in Nottingham.

 

He has undertaken special paediatric ENT training at Alder Hey Children's Hospital for eighteen months. He spent a year in Sydney, Australia, six months of which was with Professor Bill Gibson training in balance disorders, bone anchored hearing aids and cochlear implantation and for the remaining six months was with Professor Paul Fagan training in skull base surgery.

 

Prior to becoming an ENT consultant in Leicester, he was a Consultant Paediatric ENT Surgeon at Alder Hey Children's Hospital for six months. Since becoming a Consultant ENT Surgeon at the University Hospitals of Leicester in 2006, he has been awarded the Honorary Senior Lectureship by the University of Leicester for his leading role in Undergraduates Teaching.

 

In 2009, he was awarded the highly prestigious Visiting Professorship by Loughborough University for his outstanding contribution to the translational research into stem cell therapy in deafness.

 

In reward for his clinical and academic achievements, his invited biography was published in Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare (2006-7 and 2010-11) and Who's Who in the World 2010-11.

 

Professor Pau was born in Hong Kong in 1970. He completed his secondary education at Uppingham School in Rutland before going to Leicester University. He is married with two children and considers fatherhood as his greatest achievement. He tries to play a bit of golf and football when he gets the time."
